Position Summary

TheSenior Manager,Medical Science Liaison (MSL)isa field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the medical and scientificobjectivesof Alexion’s product/indication(s) across the product/s life cycle. He/she is a peer scientific expert who communicatesaccurateand applicable science to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs)in a non-promotional scientific contextwithin a geographic area. In addition, the MSL manages andmaintainscollegial/professional relationships with HCPs andidentifiesandfacilitatescollaboration opportunities with Alexion. The MSL combines strong business acumen and clinicalexpertiseand serves as a peer-to-peer liaison internally and externally.

In addition,He/Shesupportsand contributesto theAssociate Director,MSL Managerinidentifyingexternal stakeholders,developinga Field Medical Plan, andmanagingthe MSL team.

Also,He/Sheleads team/cross-faction'stasks andprojects, andcontributeto supporting works and personnel development of "Manager, MSL".

PrincipalResponsibilities

  • Develop andmaintainpeer-to-peer collaborations and relationships withKeyOpinion Leaders (KOLs)underunbiased, fair, and scientific perspective.in a relevant therapeuticareaonactivities consistent with the local Medical Planwithin the assigned geographic region.

  • Engage in discussionwith physicians on medical affairs initiatives including publications,externallysponsored Collaboration (ESC), regional advisory boards, regional medical education opportunities,trainingand speaker development programs.

  • Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust diseaseexpertiseand product information.

  • Communicate expert opinions and feedback on new data to Alexion Medical Affairs and therapeutic area franchises.

  • Provide medical and scientific input into the planning and execution of regional advisory boards and work with physician experts to review speaker presentations and provide medical references where requested.

  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in the region, managequestionsand liaise with headquarters personnel to ensure proper response has been provided and that data is fair and balanced.

  • Work with regional government affairs and managed care account teams to deliver presentations in support of patient access.

  • Understand local initiatives on disease and treatment guidelines, includinglocal-globaldifferences, to enable country-optimized activities.

  • Serve asinternalexpert in specific therapeuticareademonstratingup-to-date andhigh-leveltherapeuticexpertise

  • Depending upon therapeutic area, develop an understanding of the regional landscape including specialties involved in care of patients in that area & other landscape mapping activities.

  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines.

  • Other duties upon request including special projects.

  • Identifyingand listing external stakeholders that should be the targets of activities.

  • Contributing to and implementing the formulation of the Field Medical Plan.

  • Explaining each project plan implemented by the team and the Field Medical Plan to relevant parties.

  • Support"Manager, MSL" through work support/coaching.

  • Contributingto collaborative leadershipacross business units/MA teams/departments through participation in cross-functional meetings and projects with other MSL teams, medical affairs teams, marketing teams, R&D teams, etc.

  • Cooperate under MSL Manageron various practices and proposals for realizingGreat Place toWork (GPTW)dependingon the circumstances.

  • Contribute to medical activities before regulatory approval of Alexion products through scientific exchange with KOLs. These activities may include, but are not limited to, disease awareness initiatives, patient pathway mapping, external stakeholder identification, advisory board meetings, support for internal training, andidentifyingkey unmet needs and healthcare system challengesAll pre-approval activitiesmust  complywith Alexion’s SOP, locallawsand regulations.

Qualifications​ 

  • Substantial industry experience (> 3-4years).

  • Robust and current experience in relevant therapeutic areas relating to drugs in development,recently launchedand marketed biologics/ therapies.

  • He/Shemust have well-established networks and active relationships with KOLs focused on relevant therapeuticarea.

  • Experience ina MSLactivities relatedfieldorrare disease is strongly preferred.

  • He/Sheshould have excellent communication skills (oral and written).

  • Energetically embraces responsibilities,demonstratesability to achieve goals

  • Has a strong personal initiative, and functions well as part of a cross-functional team.

  • Exhibits excellent time management and able to work independently.

  • Travel within region 3-4 days per week with 1-2 office days per week.

  • Required travel to medical meetings, teammeetingsand othergroup.meetings (will require some weekends –possible 6 /year).

  • Native level Japanese and the ability to read and understand company documents and medical journals in English are essential. Business communication skills in English are also desirable.

  • Project management experience.

  • Extensive experience inrelationshipandstakeholder management.

  • Analytical skilland Strategic Planningskill.

  • Excellent Communication Skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to develop Strategic Partnerships and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Excellent Presentation skill.

Education

  • Qualifications for doctors, pharmacists, and nurses,Bachelor's degreeorMaster’sdegreein sciences, PharmD, or PhD in sciences, or equivalent scientific background(Unless having sufficient experience in the pharmaceutical industry and in area of responsibility).

  • He/Sheacquiresscientific rationality and ethical validity, capable of makingaccurate, fair, and objectivedecisionbased onscientificevidence.

  • He/Shecan continuouslyacquireannual internal MSL Certification.

  • Makes decisions he/she is expected to makein a timely manner.

  • Displays logical and orderly thinking in decision-making.

  • Understands the team’s purpose and his/herrole within the team.

  • Excels at working with fellow team members to deliver results.

  • Supports other team members when needed.

  • His/heractions show understanding of how his/herwork creates value for internal and external stakeholders.  

  • Focuses time and energy on the mostimportant issues.

  • Take the initiative in team management and support the "Associate Director, Medical Science LiaisonManager".

  • Commit to achieving goals and act in a way that sets an example for team members.

  • Don't stick to continue as before and take on new challenges.
