ABOUT THE MARKET ACCESS TEAM

Our Market Access team plays a crucial role in creating and expanding patient access to AstraZeneca medicines across therapeutic areas.

We’re connectors, bringing together the healthcare ecosystem through policy shaping, partnerships, stakeholder engagements, sharing of innovative value stories on our science-led medicines and co-creation of innovative payor solutions. What You will do

You will partner with cross-functional teams and external partners in preparing new medicine launches to ensure that AstraZeneca’s life-changing medicines reach as many patients as possible. You will be part of a dynamic that lays the groundwork for Pricing, Reimbursement and Patient Access. This role will report to the Market Access and Government Affairs Director and will be field-based. You will be responsible for achieving reimbursement of high-value Oncology and Haematology molecules by Private Funders through:

  • Scientific engagements with Funders at Medical Aid Schemes, Medical Aid Scheme Administrators and Managed Healthcare Organizations for optimal reimbursement through evidence-based decision-making.
  • Identify evidence requirements and utilize clinical trials to support value story.
  • Building relationships with key players and their influencers through 1:1 and group scientific engagements.
  • Participating in relevant Scientific Society meetings; industry meetings; and feedback to cross-functional team(s) for input into trends in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.
  • Communicating Product Value utilizing Health Economics Tools e.g. Health Technology Assessment; Innovative Value Solutions, amongst others.
  • Build relevant, solid value arguments with supporting health economic and budget impact analysis.

Typical Accountabilities

Delivery on Market Access

  • To ensure that Oncology and Haematology products are readily available through the removal of reimbursement hurdles and to identify access expansion opportunities.
  • Develop & maintain scientific expertise of company products and related therapeutic areas.
  • Keep abreast of cutting-edge research and literature in respective therapeutic areas.
  • Funder Engagement and scientific support for oncology and haematology
  • Scientific Ambassador to achieve competitive advantage and expand access to treatment through increased reimbursement.  
  • Interpretation and the tailoring of available evidence to support funding of AZ brands in collaboration with the medical division.
  • Establishing sustainable stakeholder relationship based on scientific rigor and integrity with Medical Aid Schemes; Medical Aid Scheme Administrators; Drug Formulary Committees; Patient Advocacy Groups; Patient Access Programs and Patient Support Programs, amongst others.
  • Capability Building for stakeholders to establish funding and/or increased access to treatment.
  • Developing Clinical Reimbursement Dossiers and other tools for clinical engagements with stakeholders for funding purposes.
  • Foster Collaboration between Academia, HCP’s, Funders and Guideline Associations.
  • Obtain feedback and funding advice on AZ Brands through peer-to-peer interactions and/or Access Advisory Boards.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant working groups at Industry Associations

Commercial Input to New Product Planning

  • Stakeholder Mapping and providing funder landscape information for input into annual Brand Plans and Patient Funnels.
  • Launch readiness activities at respective Funders and related stakeholders to ensure optimal product reimbursement decision confirmation before Launch; so that patients may access treatment on launch.
  • Development of Patient Access Programs and Patient Access Programs, where necessary to ensure co-payment bridging and/or Funder Dispute Resolution to minimize improve Funder Reimbursement and minimise self-payment gap.

Cross-Functional Project Management

  • Demonstrate leadership through cross-functional communication which aims to establish and maintain optimal reimbursement, both at launch and throughout the lifecycle of the product.
    • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams to achieve brand objectives.
    • Team Player, Analytical and Excellent Communication Skills
  • Consistent and accurate feedback to cross-functional teams
  • Rep co-travel and Rep Training

Maintained Administrative Systems

  • Governance and Ethics and Compliance in line with AZ Policies and/or requirements
  • Record Keeping and reporting as required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • MSC, Master’s in Science
  • 2 Years experience in a Science Liaison or Market Access role
  • Experience in relationship and stakeholder management.
  • Pharma experience
  • Very good command of English

Desirable:

  • Masters Level or PHD qualification
  • Understanding of multiple aspects of Market Access; Clinical evidence
  • Knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory developments
