This is what you will do:
The Discovery Biology Therapeutic Optimization intern will be responsible for supporting the development and optimization of immunoassays to characterize biologics. The candidate will design and conduct proof-of-concept experiments to support the antibody discovery and therapeutic optimization teams.
You will be responsible for:
- Working with scientists and mentors to optimize cell-based immuno-assays
- Culturing primary cells and testing the role of biologics on cell response
- Reviewing protocols and primary literature
- Adhering to experimental protocols to execute experiments and work closely with experts from cross-functional teams
- Executing flow cytometry experiments and similar assays
- Analyzing and summarizing data and communicating findings to the team
- Documenting findings in an electronic lab notebook
You will need to have:
- BS/BA in immunology, biology, biochemistry, or related field
- Actively pursuing a graduate level degree in immunology, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry or a related scientific field.
- At least 2 years of experience in a research lab
- Highly organized with excellent adherence to protocols
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Be able to maintain high levels of housekeeping, safety, and environmental standards in the laboratory according to Alexion guidelines
- The duties of this role are conducted in a lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
We would prefer for you to have:
- Experience in mammalian tissue culture
- Completed coursework in immunology
- Experience with immunofluorescence assays such as flow cytometry
