Position Summary

The New Assets Medical Advisor is an office-based position within Spain & Portugal Medical Affairs accountable for all Medical Affairs activities concerning Hypophosphatasia (HPP), Hypoparathyroidism, and Amyloidosis.

The New Assets Medical Advisor will provide scientific and medical support to customers and to the country teams in accordance with Alexion policies and processes. Will also support the Medical Director, providing scientific leadership and medical insights for the concerned Assets. Will collaborate across functions, namely with the Medical Adviser Pipeline (MAP) and Clinical Operations (COM), ensuring the highest level of communication and education for all Alexion employees mainly in the context of the Disease Areas in scope. It is a critical part of this role to build relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Healthcare professionals and other stakeholders, including Patient Association Groups (under the coordination of Patient Advocacy), to understand the diseases, the concerned patient journeys, the current treatment algorithms and agree with them the key medical activities to be successfully delivered for patients benefit.

The New Assets Medical Advisor will report to the Medical Director.

Principal Responsibilities

  • To gather and provide strategic insights to help defining the Diseases Plans aligned with the concerned Assets Global Strategies.
  • To assist in the scientific development of the concerned assets.
  • To lead the development and execution of local medical activities, observational studies, and projects.
  • To provide support on local ISRs and ESRs requests.
  • To be responsible for establishing a close collaboration with Global and International Medical Affairs functions in the concerned areas to provide scientific value to the local and international structures inside Alexion.
  • To be responsible for Developing and providing medical presentations to different stakeholders (internal and external).
  • To leverage relationships with external customers to ensure robust physician and patient’s insights collection.
  • To serve as scientific peer-to-peer resource to the concerned diseases experts.
  • To educate the medical community with up-to-date medical and scientific information and exhibit robust disease expertise and assets updated information.
  • To provide objective and balanced medical/ scientific information for both internal and external customers, including Medical Information activities.
  • To keep an active support and close collaboration with the cross-functional team of the concerned therapeutic areas: Marketing, Market Access, Medical Operations, COM, MAP, Regulatory, Patient Advocacy, Communications, Compliance, Legal, Customers Operations, Pharmacovigilance & Quality Assurance.
  • To lead the organization and execution of Advisory Boards, Investigator Meetings and, when appropriate and in accordance with internal rules and external legal framework, Standalone meetings, Symposiums, Preceptorships, and other Scientific exchange meetings.
  • Responsible for planning and organizing medical trainings for relevant target groups including Alexion employees.
  • Provide Medical and Scientific contribution to the development of the concerned disease areas future product claims that will be, in a later stage, used in the promotional materials.
  • Support local educational activities by reviewing and approving concerned materials to ensure compliance within the local regulatory frame. Verify that the content of the educational materials is relevant, medically, and scientifically correct, that materials are presented in the appropriate context and are compliant with the corresponding local code of practice.
  • In cooperation with Global Scientific Communications (SciCom) to be responsible for developing and implementing a local publication plan based on local and global strategies, including activities such as dissemination of international and local data through local congresses and key events.
  • Work in close cooperation with Medical Operations, to track and drive Medical Plans and Budget execution in the concerned therapeutic areas.
  • Provide Medical / scientific support to COM in the conduction of (global and local) clinical studies as well as in the determination of clinical trial centers and investigators for additional clinical studies.
  • Liaise with MAP to ensure coordination of initiatives related with COM and with country Key Opinion KOLs.
  • Support the implementation of the concerned diseases registries.
  • Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations with the KOLs in the concerned TA Areas within the assigned region and become recognized as a consultant in the concerned assets Indications.
  • Ensure that internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines are followed and implemented.
  • Ensure a strict and permanent compliance with all Company and Countries regulations.
  • National and international travel required.

Qualifications

  • Broad experience in the Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology industry in a medical department role
  • Experience in Bone, Endocrinal or Cardiac fields is a plus
  • Previous experience as a Medical Advisor or similar role is a plus
  • Previous experience in rare diseases is a plus
  • Previous experience in managing Teams is a plus
  • Proven capacity to communicate clearly complex scientific data, in different settings (F2F, virtual, and public presentations) and to different audiences (incl. top experts in the relevant fields) and in both, Spanish and English
  • Lead and develop medical strategies, medical disease plans and Scientific exchange meetings.
  • Engage, influence and build effective relationships with Opinion Leaders.
  • Project management skills to lead cross functional teams.
  • To be an excellent team player leading projects from planning, execution to termination.
  • Work independently and proactively.
  • Act as a team player in multi-disciplinary settings
  • Positive attitude during challenging situations
  • Willingness to travel

Education

Relevant scientific degree (medical is a plus)

Fluent in English and Castellano, written and spoken
