This is what you will do:

Alexion develops and markets life-changing medicines for a range of rare and serious diseases, including neurological diseases.

The Medical Advisor is recognized internally and externally as an expert in Alexion's neurological indications (myasthenia gravis, NMOSD).

The Medical Affairs Advisor Neurology ensures that the necessary scientific and medical expertise is available in all relevant processes and functions within Alexion.

At the same time, they act as the external contact for medical and scientific matters in the indication areas.

This requires the development and continuous maintenance of the highest scientific and medical expertise across the aforementioned diseases.

They make strategic contributions to Alexion's activities in the field of neurological diseases and support all functions of the German subsidiary (e.g., Market Access, Marketing and Sales, Regulatory Affairs), as well as international functions (e.g., R&D). His work supports Alexion's goal of achieving excellent treatment outcomes through the development and continuous improvement of evidence-based, medical care standards. This includes identifying gaps in existing data and initiating study projects to close them.

He also acts as an external contact for medical and scientific concerns in the indication area.

You will be responsible for:

Leadership Functions:

  • Development and continuous maintenance of the highest scientific and medical expertise on all diseases and products relevant to Alexion in the field of neurological disorders:
    • Internal and external recognition as an expert in these areas
    • Participation in relevant national and international conferences and congresses
    • Collaboration with scientific opinion leaders, other key customers, and stakeholders, including professional associations
    • Obtaining expert advice on open medical questions for Alexion, for example, through advisory boards
  • Identification and implementation of important medical research projects, including Alexion-sponsored study projects; generation of local data and real-world evidence (“RWE”) and their dissemination through publications and abstracts in conference presentations
  • Input and implementation of the local medical strategy and annual medical planning in line with the global strategy
  • Organization and content responsibility for medical training, including conference symposia, as well as delivering presentations internally and externally to specialist audiences (including virtual formats)
  • Coordination of the timely and appropriate response to medical inquiries Incorporation of Global Medical Information resources and compliance with local regulatory requirements

Support functions:

  • Collaboration (and scientific responsibility) in the development of HTAs (benefit dossiers according to AMNOG) at both the strategic and content levels, as well as participation in the commenting process
  • Cross-departmental collaboration with marketing, sales and scientific field service, pharmacovigilance, patient advocacy, quality management, and other functions

You will need to have:

  • University degree in medicine, pharmacy, or biology
  • 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry in medical affairs
  • Proven ability to clearly communicate complex scientific data in a variety of settings (face-to-face, public presentations) and to diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills
  • Good communication and persuasion skills
  • Knowledge of planning and implementing complex projects
  • Fluent English

We would prefer for you to have:

  • PhD
  • Experience with indications in the field of neurology, particularly neuromuscular or  neuroimmunological diseases, is an advantage
  • Experience in launching new, innovative drugs
  • Experience with clinical and Phase 4 trials (registration studies, registries, NIS)
  • Experience with the AMNOG process
  • Ability to work proactively and innovatively
  • Ability to build and expand robust internal and external networks
