Medical Affairs Advisor, Neurology, fixed-term

This is what you will do:

Alexion develops and sells life-changing drugs for a range of rare and severe diseases, including neuroscience. The Medical Advisor is known internally and externally as an expert in the neurological indications of Alexion. The Medical Affairs Advisor Neurology ensures that all relevant processes and functions within Alexion have the necessary scientific and medical expertise. At the same time, he functions externally as a contact person for medical-scientific concerns in the indication areas. This requires the development and continuous maintenance of the highest scientific and medical expertise across the above-mentioned diseases. He makes strategic contributions to Alexion's activities in the field of neurological diseases and supports all functions of the German branch (e.g. Market Access, Marketing and Sales, Marketing Department), but also international functions (e.g. R&D). His work supports Alexion's goal of achieving excellent treatment outcomes by establishing and continuously improving an evidence-based medical standard of care. This includes identifying gaps in existing data and initiating study projects to close them. In addition, he functions externally as a contact person for medical-scientific issues in the indication area.

You will be responsible for:

Leadership Capabilities:

  • Identifies and implements key medical research projects, including Alexion sponsored study projects; generates local data and Real World Evidence ("RWE"); and distributes these through publications and abstracts in the context of congressional contributions
  • Development and continuous maintenance of the highest scientific and medical expertise on all Alexion relevant diseases and products in the field of neurological diseases:
  • Recognized internally and externally as expert in these areas
  • Participation in relevant national and international meetings and congresses
  • Liaise with scientific opinion leaders, other key customers and stakeholders including trade associations
  • Obtaining expert advice on open medical issues for Alexion, for example within the framework of advisory boards
  • Inputs and implements the local medical strategy and annual medical planning in line with the global strategy
  • Organizes and is responsible for delivering medical education, including congress symposia, and delivering own lectures internally and externally to specialist audiences (including virtual formats)
  • Coordinates timely and appropriate responses to medical inquiries, using Global Medical Information resources and in accordance with local regulatory requirements

Supporting functions:

  • Contributes (and scientific accountability) to the development of HTAs (benefit dossier according to AMNOG) and participates in the opinion process
  • Works across multiple areas with marketing, sales and scientific field based services, pharmacovigilance, patient advocacy, quality management and other functions

You will need to have:

  • University degree in medicine (preferred), pharmacy or biology
  • 2+ years previous pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience in Medical Affairs
  • Experience in neurology would be an advantage
  • Proven ability to communicate complex scientific data vividly in diverse situations (F2F, public presentations) and for diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills
  • Good communication and persuasion skills
  • Ability to plan and deliver complex projects
  • Business English

We would prefer for you to have:

  • PhD
  • Experience of indications in the neurology field, in particular neuromuscular or neuroimmunological diseases
  • Experience in the launch of new, innovative drugs
  • Knowledge of clinical development (pivotal studies, registers, NIS)
  • Work proactively and innovatively
  • Ability to build and grow resilient networks internally and externally
