Summary of Position:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of AstraZeneca’s products across their life cycle. The MSL communicates accurate and applicable science to Key External Experts (KEEs) within a geographic area, leads and maintains professional relationships with KEEs, and identifies collaboration opportunities with AstraZeneca. Combining a strong eye for business and clinical expertise, the MSL serves as a peer-to-peer liaison both internally and externally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must reside in Southern Ontario.
What You’ll Do:
- You review emerging data with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) discussing benefits and risks in a scientific, objective and candid way
- You map and analyze Patient Journeys for priority hospitals in your region to develop a deep understanding of patients challenges and what drives or blocks patient focused improvements in practice at the HCP / institutional / regional level
- You innovate courageously and are proactive and daring when it comes to doing things differently with a focus on providing value to the health care system and improving clinical outcomes
- You interact with HCPs as scientific consultants to encourage engagement in scientific activities aligned with corporate projects such as advisory boards, speaker programs and clinical trials
- You identify HCPs with the scientific knowledge and expertise to collaborate on forward thinking basic, pre-clinical and clinical research identified in our areas of focus.
- You stay abreast of information and provide AstraZeneca with an understanding of regional HCPs, their practices and related key issues and trends in disease treatment
- You act as a regional (field-based) subject matter contact in the lifecycle management of products in a variety of therapeutic areas
- You will uncover opportunities for research with HCP’s and connect these opportunities with Medical Advisors as part of the Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) process
- You support key clinical trial sites by providing relevant scientific expertise on the molecule being investigated either during site initiation or shortly thereafter
- You collaborate with clinical operations groups in helping to ensure successful recruitment of clinical sites
Qualifications:
- Work experience and expertise in rheumatological diseases and immunology would be beneficial in this role.
- PharmD, MD, PhD or MSc with experience in biological sciences.
- Strong ability and experience to present complex scientific data.
- Consistent track record of relationship development in the industry.
- Energetically embrace responsibilities and demonstrate ability to achieve goals.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and high-level job proficiencies.
- Have a strong personal initiative, and function well as part of a cross-functional team.
- Exhibit excellent time management and ability to work both as a part of a team and independently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel to medical meetings, team meetings, and group meetings is required; some evenings and weekends may also be required.
- Live within the territory with which you will work. You will have a home-based office and be required to travel within the assigned region.
- A full, valid driver’s license.
