Introduction to Role:
Are you ready to simplify and streamline scientific workflows, data, and applications? As a Senior Consultant - .Net at AstraZeneca, you will work alongside platform leads, architects, BAs, and informaticians to devise technical solutions, estimate and deliver operationally sustainable platform software. You will use your technical acumen to balance between COTS and home-grown solutions, owning their lifecycles and roadmap. This role requires coordinating activities of technical internal and contract employees across multiple locations.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior engineer to advance modern software development practices within our team (DevOps/CI/CD/automated testing), building a bespoke integrated software framework (on-premise/cloud/COTS) which will accelerate the ability of AZ scientists to develop new drug candidates for unmet patient needs.

To achieve this goal, we need a strong senior individual to work with teams of engineers, as well as engage and influence other global teams within Solution Delivery to ensure that our priorities are aligned with the needs of our science.  The successful candidate will be a hands-on coder, passionate about software development and also willing to coach and enable wider teams to grow and expand their software delivery capabilities and skills.

What you’ll do.

The role will encompass a variety of approaches with the aim of simplifying and streamlining scientific workflows, data and applications, while advancing the use of AI and automation for use by scientists.  Working alongside platform lead, architect, BA, and informaticians you will be working to understand, devise technical solutions, estimate and deliver and run operationally sustainable platform software. You need to use your technical acumen to determine an optimal balance between COTS and home-grown solutions and own their lifecycles and roadmap.

Our delivery teams are distributed across multiple locations and as Senior Engineer you will need to coordinate activities of technical internal and contract employees. You must be capable of working with others, driving ownership of solutions, showing humility while striving to enable the development of platform technical team members in our journey. You will raise expectations within the whole team, solve complex technical problems and work alongside complementary delivery platforms while aligning solutions with scientific and data strategies and target architecture.

Skills & Capabilities

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Lead Full Stack Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in full stack development and the ability to lead and mentor a team of developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.

The role requires strong technical skills, and we consider the below essential capabilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of developers, providing technical guidance and mentorship.

  • Utilize 10+ years of experience as a full stack developer, employing object-oriented languages such as .Net (ASP.NET/C#.NET, .NET Core), Python, and JavaScript (Node.js/React.js).

  • Experience in designing and implementing enterprise-level architecture.

  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for efficient data retrieval and manipulation (e.g. MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle)

  • Experience in Snowflake or any other Data Warehousing would be advantageous.

  • Experience or knowledge in AWS / any Cloud implementation is desirable.

  • Proficiency in PowerBI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and data visualization best practices is an added advantage.

  • Experiences in CI/CD pipeline implementation like Jenkins, Bitbucket, Gitlab…

  • Implementing the best practices and coding standards of the project.

  • Experience on SharePoint is desirable.

  • Hands on experience in JIRA,Confluence.

  • Possess strong analytical and debugging skills, including the ability to create, maintain, and implement test plans.

  • Experience with production support and ticket management.

  • Passionate about agile, lean development practices, Continuous Integration/Continuous Development, DevOps.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work with others to achieve objectives

  • Good team player, and the attitude to work with the highest integrity and lead the team.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maths, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred. We will consider self-taught engineers without a formal education given that you have evidence of rich history of software engineering.

Experience Requirements:

  • 10+ years on software delivery projects, ideally involving teams in multiple locations
