Pharmaceutical Sciences is a department within AstraZeneca Biopharmaceutical R&D. The Pharmaceutical Sciences’ mission is to transform molecules into investigational medicines, meeting the unmet needs of future patients. Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) is a department in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our portfolio of projects spans traditional small molecules, peptides oligonucleotides to RNA based therapeutics across AstraZeneca’s therapy areas and our mission is to transform diverse modalities into investigational medicines.
We now seek a biopharmaceutics' scientist at a Scientist level to join our Biopharmaceutics team in Cambridge, UK. It is a cross-functional, cross-site team, and delivers biopharmaceutics expertise from discovery up to Phase II for small molecules and new modalities, as well as formulation and analytical solutions up to candidate drug delivery and GLP tox for small molecules.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Biopharmaceutics Scientist you are anticipated to provide biopharmaceutics input into primarily oral projects, but other administration routes may also be of interest. You are expected to aid in method development and research projects within the area of biopharmaceutics. The skill incorporates in vitro solubility, dissolution and absorption learnings and combines it with in silico tools to predict absorption of drugs. This is an exciting role where you will act as a member of various project teams and provide your scientific expertise into formulation design and development strategies. You will have responsibilities for driving and aiding development of appropriate in vitro tests. Such testing includes small scale dissolution to support pre-clinical and clinical project up to Ph2.
You are expected to aid in biopharmaceutics evaluations in projects based on experimental data produced in collaboration with cross-skilled and cross-functional teams. The role includes primarily in vitro work, but also in silico simulation work. To be successful in this role, you are expected to collaborate with others and continuously improve your knowledge to ensure biopharmaceutics related science and project input is up to date with current developments in the field. You will also be expected to share knowledge and project learnings in and outside of own function.
Requirements:
MSc (Scientist) in Pharmaceutics, Analytical science or Biopharmaceutics.
>1 year practical laboratory experience of developing and driving in vitro dissolution experiments and/or analytical methods.
A documented basic understanding of biopharmaceutics, physical chemistry and pharmacokinetics to enable a mechanistic understanding of in vivo drug product performance.
Experience of presenting scientific findings in writing, presentations, and networking activities with the ability to communicate and write proficiently in English.
Desirables:
Innovative, aiming for scientific excellence with a continuous improvement mind-set.
Experience in using in silico methodologies to understand drug product performance and aid in product development.
Excellent communication and collaborator management skills, and the ability to discuss complex ideas in a simple, easy to understand way.
Ability to take on complex scientific problems and troubleshooting, and independently lead and influence projects
