Introduction to role

The Senior AI Engineer will design, develop, and deploy AI-driven applications, while also building and maintaining robust full stack solutions using Python, React JS, on AWS cloud platform. In this role, you will apply strong software engineering skills—including DevOps and MLOps best practices—to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing AI products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address sophisticated challenges in areas such as drug development, manufacturing, and supply chain optimization, ensuring seamless end-to-end solutions that align with strategic business objectives.

About the Operations IT team
Operations IT is a global capability supporting the Global Operations organization across Pharmaceutical Technology Development, Manufacturing & Global Engineering, Quality Control, Sustainability, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Global External Sourcing and Procurement. We operate from key hubs in the UK, Sweden, the US, China, and our Global Technology Centers in India and Mexico. Our work directly impacts patients by redefining our ability to
develop life-changing medicines, combining innovative science with leading digital technology platforms and data.

Accountabilities

- Full Stack Development: Build and maintain web applications using Python (backend) and React JS (frontend), integrating AI/ML capabilities into the product stack.
- AWS & Cloud Integration: Leverage AWS services (including Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS) to deploy, scale, and monitor AI models and full stack applications in the cloud.
- DevOps & MLOps: Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code to ensure reliable and efficient deployment of AI services.
- Teamwork & Leadership: Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define project scopes, and deliver solutions aligned with business needs. Mentor junior engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and best practices.
- Performance & Optimization: Monitor and optimize both AI models and application layers to improve response times, scalability, and resource utilization.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive documentation on system architecture, data workflows, and AI model performance. Contribute to building internal AI capabilities by sharing best practices and lessons learned.

- Self-healing Supply Chain - Apply AI techniques to improve supply chain management and logistics.

Essential Skills/Experience

- Bachelor's in operations research, mathematics, computer science, or related quantitative field.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS/EKS), cloud architecture, and deployment strategies.
- Strong proficiency in Python and React JS, with solid understanding of software development patterns and best practices.
- Expertise in DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes) and MLOps (model versioning, monitoring, pipelines) within the AWS ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience industrializing GenAI, working with large and/or complex datasets.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable business insights.

Desirable Skills/Experience

- Master’s or PhD in a relevant quantitative field.
- Cloud engineering experience (AWS cloud services)
- Snowflake
- Software development experience (e.g. React JS, Node JS)
