Director, National Accounts

Introduction to role

The Director, National Accounts is responsible for ensuring national payer and PBM customers provide appropriate patient access to Alexion’s medicines. This role reports to the Senior Director, Payer Account Team Lead. Are you ready to make a significant impact on patient access to life-changing medicines?

Accountabilities

  • Developing and implementing access strategies for assigned national commercial/government payer and PBM customers that result in appropriate patient access to Alexion’s medicines
  • Leading all negotiations with assigned national commercial/government payers and PBM customers
  • Coordinating the execution of the brand access strategies with the teams responsible for regional affiliates or custom clients of national commercial/government payers and PBM customers
  • Maintaining relationships with senior managed care medical and pharmacy executives based on an expert understanding of the customer’s organizational structure and strategic priorities
  • Leveraging approved resources and internal subject matter experts (HEOR, Medical, etc.) to communicate the value of our medicines to national payers and PBMs
  • Educating internal cross-functional partners on payer coverage policies to support their strategic planning
  • Promoting cross-functional collaboration with internal functional partners
  • Developing solutions for the field force and access team with any customer-specific product access or reimbursement issues
  • Coordinating with Market Access colleagues and Patient Services to assist in resolution of coverage policy issues related to assigned payer

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study
  • 10+ years’ experience in Market Access in the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical industry
  • 10+ years’ experience in an account management role with responsibility for payer and PBM customers
  • Experience negotiating contracts with payers and/or PBMs
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. managed markets including commercial and government payers
  • Demonstrated success in securing appropriate coverage for specialty medicines covered under the medical benefit and pharmacy benefit
  • Strong understanding of reimbursement methodologies utilized by commercial and government payers under the medical and pharmacy benefits
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge and aptitude in complex disease states
  • Travel requirements: Willing to travel at least 60% of the time including significant overnight and weekend travel
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record!
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in a field environment. Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience securing access for rare disease medicines
  • Experience in an account management role with responsibility for national payer and PBM customers
  • Established relationships with one or more national payer and/or PBMs such as: UHC/OptumRx, Emisar, CVS/Aetna, Zinc, Cigna/ESI, Ascent, Elevance, PRIME, Synergie
  • Experience developing and implementing payer contracting strategies for national payers and PBMs
  • Experience securing rapid coverage for launches of new products and indications

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $182,360.00 to $273,540.00. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
