Senior Business Analyst in Controlling - GFS Post Deal Management
Location: Warsaw

Hybrid Model: minimum 3 days from the office in Warsaw per week

Global Finance Services (GFS) stands at the core of AstraZeneca's Finance function, championing the facilitation of strategic priorities through high-quality, streamlined finance processes. The Post Deal Management team plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the financial undertakings around mergers and acquisitions (M&A), with a particular focus on supporting inbound deal activities developing AZ's R&D pipeline.

This role is instrumental in acting as a business partner and a subject matter expert to execute non-standard accounting activities resulting from M&A deals. You will ensure that such complex financial activities are accurately captured and reflected within our financial reporting while providing strategic analysis and insight. As a Senior Business Analyst, you will provide expertise to ensure the financial reporting of the companies ‘business change initiatives are correctly reflected and will be the main point of contact for the business. You will be required to work across geographies, teams and business areas to coordinate and analyze data from a variety of sources and provide information and reports to key internal and external stakeholders. Within the role you will be required to identify and drive continuous improvements as well as ensuring that the wider business changes affecting the process are implemented as well as supporting and mentoring the Business Analysts in both their day-to-day activities and personal development.

Core Deliverables:

  • Serve as a primary liaison for M&A deal financial matters, working collaboratively with stakeholders across various groups to integrate R&D pipeline activities.
  • Oversee and coordinate financial processes resulting from M&A transactions, ensuring alignment with AstraZeneca's accounting policies and standards.
  • Manage and supervise month-end close processes, particularly those impacted by M&A activities, collaborating with 3rd party service providers and internal finance teams.
  • Work with Group Finance to ensure the accounting issues / major transactions impacting the accounts are clearly understood and communicated as well as being accountable for ensuring the required transactions and system updates are processed correctly.
  • Lead the preparation and review of financial reports and reconciliations, with a focus on capturing the balance sheet movements post M&A operations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to deliver insights and analytics that support better business decisions, particularly those affecting the R&D pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize and improve financial and operational processes, embedding these changes effectively.
  • Uphold compliance with regulatory, governance, and internal processes related to M&A transactions.

Other Role Requirements:

  • Support continuous improvement in Finance processes and capabilities and ensure compliance with financial governance standards taking accountability for control frameworks as appropriate.
  • Drive the simplification of finance processes across markets and teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and support to less experienced analysts.
  • Manage queries related to M&A activities from internal stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified finance professional with a degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
  • At least 5 years of R2R/GL/Controlling experience in a global organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with proficiency in SAP, Excel, and financial consolidation tools like Hyperion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capability to collaborate across teams and manage senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal).

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry or similar innovations-driven sectors.
  • Familiarity with contractual agreements, licensing, and intellectual property rights.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively.
