【Alexion Japan】Director, Finance Controlling

This is what you will do:

The Director – Japan Commercial FP&A is responsible for leading and coordinating the financial resources and activities for multiple franchises, managing the overall financial stewardship including financial reporting and compliance, financial forecasts, resource optimization and business investment opportunities.

This individual will need to possess outstanding project management skills, attention to detail and an ability to adhere to deadlines.  This role will interact with direct reports, peers and senior management and will require excellent written and oral communication skills.  This individual will need to be self-motivated, analytical and able to make well-reasoned and timely decisions. This individual should be comfortable identifying and implementing creative solutions to support greater efficiency and effectiveness of processes and procedures. 

You will be responsible for:

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Participating in and being a member of franchise leadership teams, serving as their business partner, key interface, and contact for all financial management issues.
  • Partnering with other key support functions and managing their operating expenses.
  • Providing strategic focus and input to the franchise Business Unit Leaders (BULs) and other franchise leadership team members on all key business decisions including strategic direction, business development, resource optimization/management, and investments cases, with focus on sales optimization, launch success, and sustained growth.
  • Ensuring sales and expense forecasts and phasing are achievable and supported by valid assumptions and sensitivities required to communicate potential variability to franchise leadership.
  • Establishing, monitoring, and providing course adjustments for indication and franchise financial goals and objectives.
  • Working closely with indication and franchise teams to complete the various business planning cycles and to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes and associated analysis and reporting.
  • Supporting FIN senior director to making the presentation materials to the Japan Leadership Committee (JLC) and Global FIN team the indication and franchise forecasts, performance, and potential risks/opportunities of financial submissions, including analyses required for quarterly investment briefings.
  • Leading continuous improvement in Finance processes and capabilities and leading financial risk management and financial governance in areas of accountability.
  • Working proactively with the business to understand future financial information needs and produce efficient solutions to meet these needs.
  • Managing, coaching, and providing strategic direction for a team consisting of Revenue/Demand Forecasting and OpEx management.
  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate sound financial principles.
  • Participating in and managing ad hoc projects as needed.

You will need to have:

  • Ten years of diversified financial experience
  • Bilingual (Japanese and English)
  • Experience in a FP&A leadership role and/or dealing with senior management
  • Excellent PC skills and experience such as SAP, Qlik, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical ability and demonstrated strategic influencing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in an environment that emphasizes teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work as a change agent in a dynamic work environment
  • Confidence in working with senior management
  • A high degree of accuracy with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively manage multiple and frequently changing priorities
  • Demonstrated capability to meet strict deadlines with a high level of ownership and strong sense of urgency

You will need to have:

  • MBA in Finance
  • Knowledge of the Japan pharmaceutical operating model
  • Brand knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated strong upward career trajectory, with drive, ambition, and demonstrated sound judgment.
  • Experience in foreign affiliated pharmaceutical company is a plus
  • Professional level in SAP FI/CO and prominent computer skills in Microsoft Office products (being proficient in Excel is a must).
  • Abilities for problem solving, creativity, timely decision making, process management and good communication skills are key competencies.
