Government Affairs Manager
AstraZeneca is on the lookout for a visionary leader to assume the role of Government Affairs Manager for the BBU sector (Cardiorenal, Respiratory and Inmunology). This pivotal position will spearhead the Government Affairs and Public Policy functions, overseeing the strategic development and implementation of initiatives that align with our corporate and therapeutic priorities.
You will play a critical role in influencing the political and socio-economic landscape by advancing AstraZeneca’s strategies. Your proactive engagement with external stakeholders will elevate AZ's profile and ensure strategic alignment within our Cross Functional Team (CFT).
This strategic role will encompass managing corporate affairs and BBU domains, reporting directly to the Corporate Affairs Director. You will provide expert strategic insights to shape the policy frameworks within which AstraZeneca operates, identifying opportunities for both proactive and reactive public policy advancement in key areas such as accessible innovation, health technology assessment, regulatory frameworks, and disease-specific policy initiatives that support our therapy goals.
Your responsibilities will include crafting and executing strategies and campaigns designed to proactively influence the business environment. You will actively engage with trade associations, government officials, and public institutions. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with Regional and Global teams in Medical, Market Access, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal, and Commercial sectors to coordinate initiatives and activities effectively.
We are seeking an ideal candidate with a robust blend of leadership acumen, strategic planning expertise, and extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry. A minimum of 5 years of experience in government engagement relating to BBU or therapeutic areas, coupled with exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, is essential for this role.
This position will involve both office-based and fieldwork, providing opportunities to interact with civil society, public officials, and key stakeholders.
Accountabilities
- Strategic Policy Development:Design, lead, and oversee the implementation of corporate policy strategies focused on cardiorenal, respiratory, and immunology areas to advance AstraZeneca’s agenda in alignment with therapeutic objectives across public, social, and private sectors.
- Collaborative Strategic Counsel:Provide strategic guidance and build organizational capabilities while closely collaborating with the Cross Functional Team (CFT) to develop and effectively execute Government Affairs (GA) and policy initiatives, engaging with external stakeholders as necessary.
- Engagement & Alignment Management:Ensure clear engagement and alignment on GA and policy matters by developing comprehensive toolkits, supporting materials, and guidance for implementation with the CFT and relevant agencies.
- Position Advancement:Develop and enhance AstraZeneca’s GA-policy positions regarding corporate priority themes and critical therapeutic areas, ensuring proactive advocacy in these domains.
- Industry Representation:Actively engage in local trade and industry associations’ GA and policy working groups to guarantee AstraZeneca’s effective representation and contribution to public policy development on pivotal issues.
- Strategic Resource & Advisory Role:Serve as a strategic resource to the Corporate Affairs/Government Affairs Director, providing counsel on key issues, and prepare positions and briefs for senior leadership meetings.
- Stakeholder Relationship Building:Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and wider organizational teams to foster and strengthen relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs), Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs), public institutions, and government officials across Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.
Essential
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field related to Government Affairs (Political Science, law, International Relations, Economics, Communications).
- Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry in Cardiorenal metabolic, respiratory and immunology within policy issues impacting the Mexican healthcare system.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in government affairs, public affairs, policy shaping. With at least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and familiarity with the Mexican healthcare system.
- Proven success in implementing government (policy and advocacy initiatives).
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across functional teams.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
