Project Technical Manager - Global Operations

Ort Södertälje, Stockholm, Schweden Anzeigen-ID R-199159 Veröffentlichungsdatum 08/05/2024

At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together. Making the impossible a reality can mean taking a chance on an idea and investing in our exceptional capacity for innovation and discovery. We champion trying new things, and we nurture a test and learn culture that means we are always progressing close to our goals.

Global Engineering & Real Estate (GERE) play a fundamental role in supporting AstraZeneca’s strong medicines pipeline! This by delivering facilities and technology which meet the enterprise needs and realise business benefits across the small molecule and biologics product portfolio. The group has expertise in project management, engineering technical services, project control, built environment, compliance, construction management, process governance and corporate real estate.

Your main geographical area will be Sweden with the major capital projects in this country but there will be opportunities to work in other countries. This includes delivering projects like facility upgrade projects, pellet coating projects and inhalation device projects. The role reports to our Project Technical Management team in Engineering Technical Solutions and will require some travel.

Location: Sweden (Södertälje)

What you’ll do

The Project Technical Manager will establish projects technical direction and be accountable for the delivery of the GMP compliant, functionality and robust performance of the technical packages (e.g. process, packing, automation, critical utilities, HVAC). In doing this, you will also be facilitating the projects’ alignment to AstraZeneca’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) requirements.

The PTM works closely with Project Managers and sponsors to ensure the technical scope is aligned with business and project needs. You’ll evaluate the technical competence of design contractors, suppliers and proposed external team members qualifications and engage with the PM in their selection. Further the PTM agree the technical resource requirements with the Project Manager, and secure the services of Subject Matter Experts, in consultation with the appropriate Leads in Global Engineering, along with support from other Global Technical functions as required or local site technical support. Developing an overview of the potential technical options, then lead the refinement and development to deliver a concept that meets business time and cost constraints and required performance. Working with and coaching appropriate Subject Matter Experts is also part of the role. You will also:

  • Work multi-functionally across the Project to create a complete, integrated, compliant process design, influencing partners as needed and highlighting any impact of decisions on budget and schedule
  • Ensure relevant standards (methodologies, tools, concepts, specifications, guidelines and technical solutions) are applied
  • Develop technical performance criteria together with the end-users and ensures these are met during start-up and early operation
  • Ensure that technical learning is captured and disseminated post-project completion
  • Establish effective collaboration and ways of working with relevant partners at Sweden Operations, Sweden Biologics and other relevant sites

Essentials for the role

  • Extensive Pharmaceutical industry and major capital project experience, including knowledge of industry standards, the external supply base and regulatory organisations, and how they impact the business.
  • Relevant strategic, technical and leadership expertise with a background in Automation or Process Engineering preferred
  • Experience of working in a global organisation, and awareness of how engineering delivery needs to be adapted to take account of local differences
  • Excellent communication, customer & partner management, facilitation and influencing skills

Depending on your experience this could be either an E or an F-level role.

Collaboration is a way of life for us, though the role is to be based in Sweden you will still be an active piece in our international team. Your expertise may be needed for technical assessments at other facilities, in order to do so you need to be able to travel internationally accordingly.

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility.

Why AstraZeneca

It’s inspiring and rewarding work, influencing every part of the product lifecycle to deliver life-changing medicines.
