Manager, Scientific Services

This is what you will do:

You will use your operational experience to manage day-to-day functions for the New Haven laboraties for Alexion.  You will be responsible for providing tactical oversight for the asset management program as the  primary liaison between our scientists and our 3rd party asset management provider. You will ensure appropriate asset coverage and service contracts for all equipment and scientific instrumentation, delivery of timely service, planned maintenance of equipment, and compliance with GxP calibration requirements. You will manage the full equipment lifecycle from installation, to maintenance, through final asset disposal.  

You will also have responsibility as the organizational interface with building facilities management to coordinate and solve utilities issues and act as a conduit to staff regarding any updates on the facility readiness and availability. You will manage and coordinate outage ensuring scientists are properly notified and timing of events does not interrupt the science.  You should have a working knowledge of GMP, GLP, GCP lab processes, GDP, and the quality implications of infrastructure changes. They will also coordinate lab space changes and requests and oversee infrastructure improvements required.

This individual will also be responsible for implementation and management of Operational metrics for both in house and external operational activities.  They will be with key stakeholders to develop a monthly operational report and dashboard.   They will suggest, help define and implement key operational improvements based upon metrics and KPI. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Oversee the external Asset management engagement, inclusive of all program deliverables and ongoing projects
  • Acting as a conduit between end users and building facilities management and quality groups
  • Leading meetings for internal review and external interactions with 3rd party programs for New Haven lab based scientific functions
  • Continual review of day to day operation of internal resources and externally managed programs to gather metrics to refine end-user experience
  • Development of operational metrics deck and realtime reporting dashboard
  • Support efforts to standardize lab operations functions at multiple Alexion sites in North America

You will need to have:

  • High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience in vendor oversite and a clean understanding of managing to contracts and SLA
  • Experience in working in a cross-functional, matrix environment
  • Experience developing and preparing reports
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must

We would prefer for you to have:

  • BS degree in a life sciences or a business field with 5+ years of experience
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Power BI
  • Experience in a R+D lab setting, or other regulated setting
