Role Outline

Do you have a passion for people and science, and the communications and project management skills to support the Oncology R&D Communication team? We’re looking for a Communication Projects and Events Manager to join us and contribute to our vision of one day eliminating cancer as a cause of death.    

The Communication Projects and Events Manager will play an important role in helping the team to deliver against our objectives of showcasing the next wave of Oncology innovation and achieving best-in-class employee engagement.

This role will project manage the delivery of key Oncology R&D events, such as Oncology R&D Town Halls and Senior Leaders calls, and co-manage signature cross-R&D events such as our Global Science Days and the R&D Awards. In addition, you will help to keep the team on track in terms leading budgets and other administrative duties for the Head of Oncology R&D Communication.  

This role calls for an independent and agile candidate willing to learn and adapt quickly, someone who can find opportunities for efficiency and take initiative to implement them. You will be a highly motivated and organised person who can prioritize. In return, you will be part of an encouraging and collaborative team that encourages development.

As a key member of the Oncology R&D Communication team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Event management for key Oncology R&D and cross-R&D activities, including quarterly Town Halls, Senior Leaders calls, Global Science Symposia and R&D Awards. To include project management, delegate management and liaising with colleagues, agency partners and vendors.  

  • Management of Oncology R&D Executive Vice President monthly filming logistics, including securing filming space, liaising with film crew and arranging RAMs. 

  • Leading small internal communications projects, with support from the broader team.   

  • Tracking and management of metrics across the team to provide insights to help guide future communication strategies.

  • Proactively identify and implement simplification and process improvement opportunities to improve ways of working.

  • Delivering outstanding and defined administrative support to the team, including travel booking, expense reporting and light diary management for the Head of Oncology R&D, budget tracking and management and purchase order support for the team, and leading all aspects of key processes (e.g. new employee onboarding).

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Highly organised with prior event management and administrative support experience

  • Communication experience or keen interest in communications and desire to learn

  • Ability to interact confidently with executives and employees

  • Flexible to adapt to ever-changing needs and deadlines, and ability to prioritise time sensitive assignments

  • Ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo and seek opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Ability to work autonomously, and at the same time, collaborate effectively with other members of the team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and competency with virtual technologies (e.g., MS teams, Zoom)

  • Able to effectively multitask in a dynamic environment while maintaining confidentiality and discretion
