We are currently looking for a Medical Science Liaison/Medical Advisor in the Haematology area to play a leading role in our Haematology team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role is responsible for being the first point of contact for any medical/scientific aspect or issue related to the assigned haematology products by engaging in Scientific Exchange with AstraZeneca teams, Key External Experts, Health Care Professionals, and Clinical Investigators. The role engages with external experts to identify medical unmet needs, evidence gaps and gain insight, and delivers presentations in a non-promotional scientific context as determined by the global / local Medical Affairs plans. For this position, the successful candidate will have hybrid responsibilities (50% field based; 50% office based with medical affairs responsibilities).

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

The role broadly includes the following key components:

  • Build and maintain robust expertise in your therapeutic area by continuous education, active monitoring of the scientific literature and by participation in national and international congresses and AstraZeneca events
  • Develop and implement the local medical plan to address unmet medical needs in priority disease areas and ensure alignment with the brand plan in the local market
  • Be a core member of the cross-functional team and drive the implementation of initiatives and projects such as medical education and communication, scientific exchange, mapping and insight gathering and evidence generation within a specific therapy area, ensuring they are medically and scientifically accurate and compliant
  • Build, enhance and maintain the engagement with key opinion leaders
  • Help set up and provide medical-scientific training and further education in your therapeutic area for AZ personnel
  • Proactively contribute medical & clinical expertise and insights to the brand strategy, for the successful launch and life cycle management (LCM) of new & growth products
  • Organisation and execution of scientific events such as symposia, other educational initiatives for healthcare professionals
  • Providing scientific input into the scoping & horizon scanning meetings, rapid reviews & health technology assessment (clinical section) in collaboration with the market access team
  • Organisation of and conducting of local advisory board meetings
  • Develop and maintain contacts with Scientific Societies/Communities including attendance at relevant national and international congresses
  • Collaborate with medical team members from other countries or other TAs to exchange standard methodologies and refine the role
  • Ensure compliance with all local regulatory requirements and AstraZeneca Local and Global Policies and Guidelines
  • Review promotional and scientific documents for content accuracy and compliance

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Respond to medical and scientific queries along with the Medical Information / Patient Safety team
  • Discuss with Investigators and review proposals for independent studies (ESR Externally Sponsored Research) and follow the relevant process for managing externally sponsored research
  • Management of early access medicine requests as per local policy
  • Support the market access team in scientific communication with health care authorities

Essential for the role

  • Minimum: Life Sciences Degree. MD, pharmacist or PhD preferable
  • Strong understanding of haematology therapeutic area or ability to acquire this knowledge rapidly
  • Professional experience of working in healthcare related industries
  • High-level of scientific knowledge and ability to analyse and process clinical and scientific data
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including communicating complex technical, scientific, or medical information to various audiences
  • Excellent project management ability
  • Experience in liaising with healthcare professionals
  • Quick self-learner, ability and willingness to work in a team and independently
  • Driving license, and willingness to drive within Ireland

Desirable for the role

  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and execution of medical affairs plans, preferentially as MSL or within Medical Affairs in one of the therapeutic areas mentioned above.
  • Experience in engaging with health care regulatory authorities
  • Experience in pre-launch, peri-launch and post-launch phase of a product as part of its life cycle management
  • Knowledge of the local regulatory and market access requirements related to medical affairs activities
  • Knowledge of the legal and ethical framework and the procedural guidelines that apply to the promotion and approval of medicinal products in Ireland
