Role description

Order and Distribution to Cash process area including multiple processes that are subject to contractual agreements with customers and payers (payers being the organisations who pay for patients care). The content of these contracts can lead to requirements to be delivered to multiple or individual organisations and this can lead to difficulty in delivery of those contractual agreements.

This role will be responsible for ensuring appropriate contracts are in place, content is harmonised and aligned with our process capability and by working with other process leads that the agreements can be met without additional or incremental manual activity. Getting this right starts with the Country based commercial teams, flows through the distribution and transport teams and ends with finance handling credit risk, ordering, billing, rebates and collecting cash.

This role is to ensure we have the accurate contracts in place and contracts are maintained, updated and valid. This may also lead to potential opportunities to harmonise content, layout and repository to ensure there is the level of visibility provided to ensure the agreements can be driven or delivered. It may also lead to more harmonised data across the organisation to ensure there is a rationalised suite of choices to be standardised within those contracts.

Typical Accountabilities

Working as part of a larger team within the programme this role will operate at a defined regional level that:

  • Identifies how contracts can be more standardised and made more accessible.

  • Develops an approach to providing central oversight and maintenance of the contracts.

  • Defines and deploys the potential use of a menu of choices within contracts that can be supported by processes driven/delivered by Order and Distribution to Cash process and other process areas.

  • Establishes an approach to track of prices globally to facilitate accurate rebates and settlements.

  • Defines the data needed to run these processes.

  • Works with the external 3rd parities to identify the best operational model and technical approach to this capability for AZ, enabling data to be available for analytics on margins and pricing approaches to be available to appropriate partners.

  • Keeps self and others up to date on recent developments and emerging trends on an internal and external basis.

  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment and leading from the front.

  • Demonstrated success building cross-functional global networks and partner management.

  • An understanding of the legal frameworks required to improve AZ position and retain appropriate levels of data protection and confidential scrutiny.

  • Contract Law qualification and practical experience of contract implementation and contractual changes.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Commercial mentality – able to drive an appropriate level of commercial challenge into all projects ensuring pragmatic value add.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to use a range of influencing techniques, building strong working relationships and leading without authority.

  • Personal agility – ability to ‘turn your hand’ to issues and events as they arise.

Desirable for the role

  • Specific Expert knowledge in specialist process area.

  • Contract law qualification with multiple years' experience in application and deployment in contract law changes and updates.

  • Organisational change and program management experience.

  • AZ knowledge and network.

  • Awareness of tax and pricing models in AZ.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging pharmaceutical pricing pressures and approaches.

  • Knowledge of royalty agreements both receivable and payable related to divestments and join ventures.
