Accountabilities
Resourcing:
Collaborate with AST Science Leads and TA in vivo leads to resolve and coordinate resource requirements (FTE, capabilities) for mid-term planning across vivarium units.
Identify potential risks to project delivery, propose mitigation strategies, and escalate issues to the Head of Department (HoD), Science Leads, and Section Managers as needed.
Liaise with AST Section managers and in vivo scientists to handle working rotas, including PM and weekend cover.
Ensure the timely delivery of animals for study delivery from the facility.
Support the development of business cases for workforce, CAPEX, and capital requirements in collaboration with the AST UK Operations team.
Organisation Performance:
Analyse and evaluate information and help to identify any deficiencies, which may lead to standards falling. Will help to assess the practicalities of implementing new developments and innovations in the use of animals for scientific research.
Ensure quality control and accurate reporting of AST UK delivery metrics.
Identify and lead delivery optimization projects focused on improving time to delivery, cost efficiency, operational efficiencies, and the 3Rs on a UK level, and supply to global efforts.
Mentor and develop staff to enhance their skills and performance.
Contribute to the AST UK Scorecard and provide ad hoc support as required.
Facility Management and Operations:
Implement processes related to access to the animal facility, ensuring secure and efficient operations.
Supervise the maintenance and operation of key equipment within the facility to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with regulatory standards.
Supervise the implementation of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) ways of working in the animal facility, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Interact with key partners to understand future strategy in respect to laboratory animal science and propose or advise best practices to support the strategy. Participate in meetings, committees or external groups as an advisor on animal-related issues.
Essential Skills/Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related subject area.
Hands-on experience in vivo, demonstrating familiarity with animal studies and scientific rigour.
Proven matrix leadership experience, effectively handling cross-functional project teams.
Strong experience in business planning and management.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
A thorough understanding of key milestones in the drug development cycle.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Experience in operational management with a preference for LEAN methodologies and project management skills.
Proven experience in efficiency optimization and cost management projects.
Additional qualifications or certifications related to SHE, facilities management, or operational excellence.
