Introduction to the Role
Join the Centre for AI (CAI) at AstraZeneca, working at the forefront of protein language model development for genome editing. This role is part of a proof-of-concept project aiming to revolutionize gene editing by designing novel CRISPR-Cas systems, optimized for therapeutic applications. You will work under the supervision of industry experts and have the opportunity to contribute to transformative advancements in AI applications to biology.
Accountabilities
Aggregate and curate datasets of CRISPR-Cas operons and associated metadata.
Fine-tune pretrained protein language models using the curated datasets.
Generate and filter novel CRISPR-Cas sequences, ensuring functionality and compatibility.
Collaborate with the team members to analyze data and generate insightful results.
Assist in drafting reports and manuscripts summarizing the research findings.
Essential Skills/Experience
Currently pursuing a MSc or PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related field.
Basic understanding of the protein language models.
Basic understanding of the CRISPR-Cas systems.
Proficient in programming with Python.
Experience with data preparation and analysis.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate scientific ideas effectively.
