AstraZeneca’s R&D (Research & Development) Data Office is an industry-leading enabler of data and AI strategy. The Data Office provides data services, technology, and data products, supported by data and AI policy and governance, to unlock the value of data that drive innovative science.
The Position
We currently have an exciting maternity cover 12-month secondment opportunity for a Director, Data Solution Analysis, that will be responsible for shaping and implementing a real-world data (RWD) strategy for R&D, to unlock value from RWD and drive maximum benefit to R&D and ultimately, to the patients AstraZeneca serve.
The Director, Data Solution Analysis has a strong blend of RWD expertise, strategic thinking and communication skills. They will primarily collaborate with stakeholders across R&D, but also Medical and Commercial, to develop a RWD strategy fit for R&D. This position will also lead collaboration opportunities to drive forward novel projects and technologies.
Accountabilities
- Lead review of real-world data needs across the R&D portfolio and identify opportunities to address evolving business needs, for both Oncology and Biopharma.
- Assess data for its suitability for use in evidence generation through data landscape assessments.
- Represent R&D in BioPharma- and AstraZeneca-wide initiatives, including BioPharma RWD Strategy Forum.
- Partner with key stakeholders across AstraZeneca to drive cross-functional initiatives (e.g., tokenisation).
- Define key RWD capability requirements within the Data Office to advance RWD use and evidence generation.
- Engage and build networks to remain up to date with the latest data and technology trends.
- Represent AstraZeneca in key external partnerships and support acquisition of new assets when required.
- Work closely with different stakeholders across Data Science & AI to identify and shape complex data solutions that will enable TAs to achieve their objectives, as well as deliver high-impact business cases or proof of concepts for emerging RWD needs.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Advanced degree (MSc) or higher in Life Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, or equivalent experience
- In-depth knowledge of real-world data sources including EHR, claims, registry and observational data
- Significant pharmaceutical or life sciences industry experience
- Strong engagement, communication and partner management skills, including excellent presentation and influencing skills
- Experience in a complex global organization, including collaborating cross-functionally
- Awareness of latest data and technology trends
Desirable Skills & Experience
- PhD in Life Sciences
- Experience in Research & Development (R&D)
- Experience applying advanced analytics to tackle challenges in drug development using real-world data
- Good understanding of healthcare systems in multiple geographies (e.g., US, UK)
- Experience in data sciences and technology, including analytical software (e.g., R, IHD)
