Director of Investor Relations

Cambridge UK, London UK, or Boston Massachusetts (USA)

Introduction to role

We are looking for a new Director of Investor Relations to join our global team, based in Cambridge UK, London UK, or Boston Massachusetts.

At AstraZeneca, we turn ideas into life-changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big, and working together to make the impossible a reality. The AstraZeneca (AZ) Investor Relations (IR) Team, based at our headquarters in Cambridge, UK, serves as a liaison between AZ and the external investment community. The team helps shape AZ’s messaging and positioning with investors and drives the investor relations outreach processes.

Key Accountabilities

As Director of Investor Relations, you will be involved in several activities, including, but not limited to:

  • Contributing to the preparation and participation in quarterly earnings calls, pipeline updates, the Company’s investor science events at medical meetings, and ad-hoc activities. Over time, and once familiar with the Company, business, and pipeline, you will take on individual responsibilities.

  • Becoming a key contributor and copywriter on one of the key quarterly documents used for publication of quarterly results (results announcement, presentation, presentation appendix, or Q&A document).

  • Participating in the servicing of sell-side analysts, including help on questions, modeling, consensus, etc.

  • Participating in investor meetings, conferences, and roadshows.

  • Acting as a corporate spokesperson to the financial markets.

In addition, as the new Director of Investor Relations, you will be expected to be involved in several projects and new initiatives such as:

  • Working on other new projects such as expanded outreach to investors in the US, Sweden, and the UK.

  • Collaborating with other team members and company functions to improve communication and teamwork to drive efficiencies and ensure consistent messaging.

  • Taking on new opportunities continuously within our flexible matrix structure. Regular business travel should be expected.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Strong focus on quality based on a diligent, analytical, and critical-thinking mindset

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills (this is particularly important) and ability to articulate and explain strategy, business, and pipeline in a simple yet concise fashion through Word and PowerPoint

  • Ability to analyze and interpret clinical data

  • Great project management skills and the drive to lead projects to successful outcomes

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to contribute to a high-performing team; ability to build strong interpersonal relationships internally and externally

  • Ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization and influence internal and external audiences, including comfort interacting with the Senior Executive Team (CEO, CFO, and other senior management)

  • Previous Investor Relations experience would be a huge advantage but not essential, although experience in adjacent areas is a plus (business development, investment banking, capital markets)

  • Good understanding of equity capital markets (stock-price drivers, trading activity, investor areas of focus)

  • Scientific experience/background from medicines development, medical writing, pipeline & portfolio management, healthcare investment banking or similar

  • Experience working in Oncology would be an advantage

  • Very strong IT skills

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That's why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we're not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.

AstraZeneca is where you can make a meaningful impact every day. We help AstraZeneca run faster and better by leveraging exciting new technology and digital innovations. Our entrepreneurial spirit keeps us ahead of the rest as we apply creativity to every task we do. We thrive in our fast-paced environment by taking smart risks to turn our ideas into reality. With countless opportunities available, this is the place to build an unrivaled reputation while being rewarded for your successes.
