Senior Director Product Management - Data Science and AI

We are seeking a Senior Director for Product Management in our Data Science and AI department. This role is critical for the delivery of the AstraZeneca corporate strategy, where Data, AI and Digital are foundational value drivers for Innovative Science. 

About the role:

In R&D, Data Science and AI are creating a set of analytics ready data that is FAIR across a range of R&D data typesacross the Drug Discovery and Development pipeline, including Omics data, Imaging data, Clinical Patient data, biological and small molecule data. Other data types will be added in due course. We are defining and applying controlled vocabularies, derived from our Semantic R&D Reference Model to enable the building of metadata models for each of these data types, using current thinking in terms of semantic and classical data management, to support machine learning and AI initiatives.

The programme will deliver access to the right data via data science environments with appropriate tooling and access to data for data scientists to use to perform analysis on the data. We are also building cross data type query interfaces, to enable scientists to find and integrate data within and across data types, including the ability to query data across modalities at the subject level across study. We also see the opportunity, through working closely with large scale R&D Transformation projects, to apply these standards to core business processes and thus enable automation and scaling

Accountabilities:

As a Product Manager you will represent R&D requirements in the enterprise implementation of platforms for RDM, our Persistent Identifier Service and Concept Store working with teams from Enterprise and R&D IT and R&D Data and AI Policy, Risk and Compliance, as well as a range of senior stakeholders from across R&D. This role is based in the Data Standards, Interoperability and Governance group within the R&D Data Office, part of Data Science and AI in AZ R&D.

Essential Skills/Experience:

- Hands-on experience from Agile development, preferably in a business context.

- Relevant degree in Life Sciences, Informatics,Information/Data Science, Computer Science, or other related subject area.

- Experience of pharma and the life sciences.

- Experience of senior data leadership.

- Track record of significant strategic data project delivery with demonstration of clear scientific and/or operational value.

- Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong positive relationships.

- Conflict resolution: succeeding in situations where a high degree of business insight, influencing and tact are required to find a way forward.

- Ability to work across global & functional boundaries.

- Travel – willingness and ability to travel domestically & internationally.

- Resilience – ability to overcome challenges and empower others in the face of a changing environment.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Experience of running projects in a GxP regulated environment.

- Experience with Linked Data principles (RDF, OWL, SKOS, URIs, etc)
