AstraZeneca are investing in a new Centre of Excellence in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) & Modelling Science (HMS) across both, our BioPharmaceutical Business Unit (BBU) and Oncology Business Unit (OBU). This Centre of Excellence provides expertise in HTA statistics, indirect treatment comparisons, economic modelling and other HTA methodology. We are seeking a Group Director to lead our HTA and Modelling Science team within BBU, covering therapy areas of Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism and Respiratory & Immunology and Vaccines & Immune Therapies. This team, as part of a multi-disciplinary group, including HTA statisticians, health economists and market access specialists, will be helping us to shape the payer environment, creating and delivering highly valued market access solutions that unlock the potential of our life-changing medicines for patients around the world.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will lead and develop a team of experts who are responsible for the delivery of HTA science and modelling projects within the BBU. You will be responsible for developing and coaching the team, driving methodology development and implementation, and ensuring high quality analytics and evidence for use in global HTA submissions and business decisions. With your ability to connect people you’ll provide leadership and strategic direction to the development and success of our HMS capability.
By working cross-functionally and with your counterparts in our other global Business Units, you’ll help ensure consistency and high quality in HTA excellence across our organisation, as well as grow our level of knowledge and understanding regarding HTA modelling requirements. You’ll participate in appropriate external forums i.e., special interest groups of relevant organizations to advance AstraZeneca’s reputation and expertise in developing and applying HTA relevant techniques, as well as be part of our Market Access Leadership team.
Essential for the role
- Shown leadership of successful teams, demonstrating your capability to empower and enable others to accomplish individual, team and organisational objectives.
- Degree in relevant field such as mathematical sciences (e.g. mathematics, statistics, operations research, engineering) or quantitative social sciences (e.g. economics, health economics, health services research) or equivalent quantitative skill demonstration.
- Good understanding and ability to lead the development of decision-analytic models as well as network meta-analyses (NMA) and indirect treatment comparisons (ITC).
- Strategic knowledge of global HTA systems and how their changing needs impacts AstraZeneca’s HTA skill development.
- Knowledge of drug development and pull through to commercialisation within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Strategic understanding of HTA methodology to support decision-making within the business and maximise reimbursement opportunities and patient access to our medicines.
- Understanding and ability to interpret clinical and statistical data.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Good problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Desirable for the role
- Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry (ideally, at a regional or global level)
- Experience in supporting the successful HTA and reimbursement of treatments in the areas of Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism and Respiratory & Immunology and Vaccines & Immune Therapies
- A consistent record of publishing HTA related studies in high-impact journals
