CDI leads the delivery of clinical data and insights, through simplification, quality by design and collaboration. It is our aspiration that we will transform our clinical data flows and advance data derived insights, enabling acceleration of life changing medicines to patients

As AZ invests in the simplification of our patient data flow we require a Director to ensure that in the short and long term CDI operational and patient data is treated, handled and governed as a product so that maximum benefit and use can be realised from our data products and technical debt is minimalised.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Director, Clinical Data Projects you will focus on ensuring that CDI Operational and Patient Data Products are implemented, align with FAIR and TRUST principles and are governed and controlled to enhance use across the AstraZeneca enterprise.

In this role you'll be:

  • Working with key collaborators in CDI, Dev Ops, Biometrics, Digital Health, TAs, DS&AI and IT you will drive the vision and strategy for CDI operational and patient data products.

  • Helping us to work cross-functionally across the enterprise, ensuring the right data products are set up for use across AZ.

  • Ensuring coordination between data platforms, solution architecture, information architecture and data governance so that the final products meet business, technical and regulatory requirements.

  • Understanding and clearly articulating the business value of the products and how they are used by multiple systems and functions across AZ

  • Leading the Data Product roadmap and prioritizing building what matters most to achieve its strategic goals and initiatives.

  • Owning and handling the Data Product’s agile backlog to ensure all consuming systems and products are able to use data as needed. This will also include timely reversal of technical debt.

  • Identifying and leading partnerships required to ensure innovative capabilities at the intersection of data science, technology and healthcare.

  • Acting as a Champion for agile, iterative development process driven by design thinking, frequent end-user input, constant insight generation from data.

  • Managing dependencies in and across releases to complete release phases and milestones.

  • Promoting and governing the use of the Data Products across the organisation (so duplicate data flows are not set up).

  • Working with the Data Office and any relevant Data Owners to take on the Data Steward role for the CDI data products when needed.

  • Identifying resource requirements to effectively implement, govern and control CDI operational and patient data products.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree(s) in business and/or sciences, or equivalent experience.

  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical/medical/healthcare industry, development, research and/or commercial planning, and global coordination roles.

  • A history of diverse collaborator management.

  • Solid understanding of which roles within study teams need access to Patient Data during and after clinical trials and how the data is routinely used/handled.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.

  • Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and to manage complexity by simplifying it for others and providing clear directions to IT delivery teams.

  • Leadership skills, such as solving problems that involve many decision makers, and develop multiple options/recommendations.

  • Extensive networking skills, ability to interact widely both within the company (on both an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary basis) and externally.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.

  • Understanding of key principles and processes of Data Management (Governance, Architecture, Modelling, Reference and Master Data, Integration, Storage, Business Intelligence).

  • Experience of project management.

Desirable Requirements

  • Familiarity with the latest research and thinking of dynamics affecting the pharmaceutical industry and the need for transformation.

  • Agile product owner training and certification.

  • Other Project Management qualification.

  • Experience leading a development team and working in a global environment.
