Job Description

The Information Architect may be an experienced individual contributor but will also play a leadership role on smaller initiatives and projects overseeing other Information Architects and may be a local Team Leader.

We see this person as having a broad understanding of data management capabilities. This includes data architecture, data modelling & design, Reference & Master Data, Metadata Management and Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence. As well as being involved in embedding these capabilities into software solutions and into governance processes (business and IT).

The role may specialise, and will have expert knowledge, in one of these capabilities and may be asked to lead activities focused on defining and embedding best practices for the capability across the organisation. Whilst striving to build knowledge of each of the data capabilities, this individual must also develop deep domain knowledge relating to AstraZeneca’s data.

We expect this individual will also provide recommendations on enhancements to existing applications to improve data quality or to support analytics.

Typical Accountabilities

Spending a majority of time designing, building or reviewing Information Architecture deliverables, independently and as a team.

Oversee the work of assigned project Information Architects or Data Modellers. Be responsible for the quality and velocity of their work and own the delivery of assigned tasks while operating independently but escalating issues and questions in a timely manner

Ensures appropriate review and governance of Information Architecture deliverables, ensuring that they are aligned with related AZ IT standards and practices. Adhering to the established AstraZeneca lifecycle methodology.

Responsible for design, delivery and review of Information Architecture components, such as data models, master data designs, data flow diagrams, metadata models.

Responsible for developing and enforcing data standards and principles. Ensuring that there is appropriate review and governance of Information related deliverables within their assigned area.

Identifies new software technologies that can automate or improve data management capabilities. Leads investigations of data related problems within existing IT applications and in coordination with other teams identify plans to resolve.

Education and Qualifications

  • Experience of delivering Information Architectures for at least one of the following capabilities Data Architecture, Reference & Master Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence.
  • Experience working with complex omics data sets.
  • Higher education qualification in a Scientific discipline, Computer Science or comparable program, or relevant work experience.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong ability and willingness to learn new Information Architecture capabilities and to understand complex business data (specifically OMICS data).
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and facilitation skills with the ability to work with others across remote geographies to achieve objectives
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application and data design
