Are you an experienced biostatistician looking for an exciting new challenge? Join our Data Sciences & Quantitative Biology department in Waltham, US to help us evolve our proteomics and multi-omics capabilities.  AstraZeneca’s continuing investments in multi-omics capabilities are built to help advance our understanding of (a) mechanisms underpinning disease, (b) the characteristics of our preclinical models of disease, and (c) responses of biological systems to pharmacological agents.

This role forms part of our growing capabilities to provide proteomics data analysis, requiring an individual passionate about development and delivery of solutions for proteomics including experimental design, sample size/power, data processing, statistical data analysis, machine learning & AI, data visualizations, and interpretation.  You will be part of a team based in Waltham, MA working locally and closely with proteomics experimentalists, but also with statisticians and data scientists in Gaithersburg, MD (US), Cambridge (UK), and Gothenburg (Sweden). You will play a key role in supporting, driving and evolving our proteomics data analysis capabilities and projects. Addition preclinical in-vivo and in-vitro project work will stem from therapeutic area scientists co-located in Waltham.

The role:

Your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary colleagues and other statisticians and data scientists to manage, analyse and generate insights from LC-MS proteomics data.
  • Ensure adherence to good statistical practice in all areas.
  • Contribute to the analytical pipeline production for LC-MS proteomics data, as part of our data foundation for science initiative
  • Collaboration with other statisticians and data scientists to contribute to the planning and delivery of proteomics and multi-omics studies
  • Support in-vivo and in-vitro science (experimental planning and analysis of data) for therapeutic areas.
  • Communicating efficiently and effectively with biologists and other scientists to understand requirements and translate them into data science problems and solutions.
  • Ensuring scientific excellence in software, processes and results as well as being efficient and well documented.

  • A solid understanding of biological concepts, data and information types – for example relating to diseases, preclinical assays, target identification and target validation, or drug repositioning.
  • Experience with relevant computational tools such as R/R Shiny, Python, Shell, networked and cloud-based systems, software versioning tools (e.g. Git/Github)
  • Ability to work effectively in global multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong communication skills, with technical and non-technical collaborators
