Research Scientist, Mechanistic Biology & Profiling

Discovery Sciences is a multi-faceted department which drives early drug discovery across AstraZeneca’s global Research & Development portfolio. Mechanistic Biology & Profiling (part of Discovery Sciences), is a global, multidisciplinary department responsible for mechanism-of-action studies and compound profiling for efficacy and pre-clinical safety in support of the Oncology, Cardiovascular and Renal Disease, Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity, and Neuroscience portfolios.
Reporting directly to the US Associate Director of the Mechanistic Biology & Profiling Department you will be an integral member of a team generating pre-clinical pharmacology data to predict and understand compound (and novel drug modalities) efficacy to drive our DMTA cycle (Design, Make, Test, Analyze).
You will provide early, impactful insight to projects across the Oncology and Neuroscience disease areas, through a combination of in vitro enzymology, and pharmacology. You will be a skilled and passionate lab-based scientist, able to represent the department across a range of therapeutic projects and global initiatives, and externally, too.
Masters and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or Bachelors with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Experience must be gained in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry with proven experience in a quantitative biology-based discipline (enzymology, pharmacology,)
- External reputation in pharmacology and/or enzymology, gained through professional recognition, external presentation, publication in high-impact journals
- Track record of delivering results across a diverse project portfolio
- Experience in pre-clinical drug discovery using robotic platforms
